Q1 2021 Accountability Check

2021 Financial Goals

#1) 10% net worth growth- Going to give out 2 numbers here since there is some explaining to do. As of March 31st my total net worth increase is 11.8%, however if I am counting ONLY my actual growth and excluding the money my amazing mom is chipping in to help me with my eventual down payment, my net worth increase is 5.6%. Regardless for only 3 months of growth, I’m very pleased with some of the changes I made.
#2) Create and monitor a monthly budget- This is a Q2 goal for me, busy season hit hard as it does every year and I will hopefully be focusing on tracking this more in May
#3 Review spending and remove unnecessary line items- I’ve definitely put a stop on some unnecessary spending, but I think this will be more defined once the budget is formalized.
#4) Increase my 401K contributions- I increased earlier this year from 10% to 15%
#5) Move majority of additional 2021 raises/promotion/bonus income to savings for a house- my company’s annual raise is effective July 1st, so this will be more predominantly impactful beginning in Q3 and bonuses are paid out in Sept/Oct so again impact will fall in Q3/Q4’s update.
#6) Take a college course on Real Estate- Just finished my final for this course (Real Estate Finance) 🙌🏼 grades coming soon.
#7) Find more Financial Independence podcasts- I haven’t yet found ones that I like as much as I love the Price of Avocado Toast or Friends on Fire, in the mean time I am focusing on reading books recommended in the FIRE community.

2021 Personal Goals

#1) Read 12 books this year- This goal actually evolved into a bucket list item and I upped the # of books given how quickly I got through them. As of March 31st I’ve read/listed to 18 books/audio books.
#2) Finish the 30 before 30 bucket list- See this post for a check-in I did earlier. I’m about 65-68% of the way through my bucket list, with hopes to check off about 6 more items in the next couple of months!
#3) Declutter the office and closet- one of the books I read this year was the year of less, and her measurement of decluttering has me inspired, I have plans to tackle this once work has slowed down a bit.
#4) Write on the blog more consistently- In Q1 I’ve successfully posted 8 times. 2 Recipes, 5 bucket lists and this summary. I’ve got 4 bucket lists items I’ve completed in draft to be posted in May and more to come as things get checked off!

2021 Health Goals

#1) Drink all the water (100 oz a day)- I did really well in early January, then as busy season hours got later and later I regrettably switched to diet coke. As of Feb 20th I got all the diet coke out of the house and am starting to get my way back to drinking water. I would say I average anywhere between 30-50 a day, and am taking steps to get that number up again.
#2) Lower my blood pressure- I revisited my doctor in February and we are working to figure out a couple things, but I am consistently tracking my BP and happy to say that the number compared to 1 year ago is better and I am hoping to keep that trend up as the gyms and fitness spaces are re-opening.
#3) Explore new surroundings by foot (Anaheim)- 2 fun facts: it takes 25 minutes walking to get to the Honda Center and about 10 minutes in multiple directions to get to different breweries.
#4) More meatless Monday’s- I’ve got some work to do!
#5) Use massage credits more often and consistently – gone the last couple of months and hoping to book a day or two at glen ivy soon!
